Toss it!

I accidently stumbled across a great list through a link on Yahoo. You can find the post on POPSUGAR.

The object of the list is to clean out clutter from our homes. Emily Co wrote a post titled One a Day: Throw These 116 Things Away. The writter is today's hero!

According to Emily, "Cleaning out clutter can be a tough task, especially if you have been letting it build up for a while. Instead of setting aside a huge block of time to take care of months' or years' worth of clutter, take baby steps by throwing away only one type of item a day. And by throwing away, I mean recycling, selling, donating, or — as the last resort — trashing. Here's a list of 116 types of items that will take you about four months to dispose of:
  1. The other side of a pair of lost earrings
  2. Scraps of wrapping paper
  3. Cards people have given you with no sentimental value
  4. Receipts you don't need
  5. (lots of ideas on the original article)

This seems like a great place to start as we find ourselves packing a little at a time. But do I really want to toss that scrap of wrapping paper? I also need small pieces for stocking gifts? 

How do I know I won't need these receipts?  Just because I've eaten all of these groceries, doesn't mean the receipt is useless?  Good grief!!!  Then I remember the HGTV shows where a professional organizer goes into a home and helps the family get rid of clutter.

It's time to clean out while I pack. I just don't need all the stuff that I've collected through the years. I'm off to make a donation box, find a huge trash can, and list some "for sale cheap" ads online.  The less I move, the less I have to unpack!
