North Harris County, Texas

Houston is a huge city, with hundreds of resources. This list includes companies I have used with success. Some of them helped with our new home. Others were companies I've used in the past. They are all located in, or work in the North Harris/South Montgomery county area.

If I have not hired the company, but discovered them elsewhere, I added a star by the company name to make that distinction. *
Success does not mean it was always perfect, but these companies were willing to work out kinks and make it work. These are people I have used and would use again. A company is only as good as its people, and the people I worked with in these businesses are all top notch!

(No company has paid to be listed on this page.)

ALL THE RIGHT MOVES - My husband researched local movers, reading reviews and getting bids. He chose this company and we were not disappointed. We actually left furniture at the previous house to stage it for sale and will use this company when it's time to move that furniture as well. (See Dad & Brad below)

BEST SECURITY  SOLUTIONS - Their name says it all. They are the best security team I have ever encountered. David May and his team know exactly what is needed to create a system for your individual home. Their "after the sale" service is above the norm. I can't believe we ever used anyone else.

BLV ENTERPRISES - Brian Vonderau installed the landscaping our previous home in 1987. Because he knew him to be a man of integrity, not to mention an artist with landscape design, we called him when moving into our new home. He did not disappoint!

CHAIRMA * - I met Cindy Aplanalp-Yates at the ASID Showcase Home in July 2017. Cindy is principal of Chairma, an award-winning design firm in Houston, that gladly works in the north parts of the city and suburbs. Her design at the showcase was my favorite part of the home.  She and her team are responsible for the design of the upcoming Southern Living Showcase Home that will be open in the fall of 2017. She "catches" southern.

DAD AND BRAD PIANO MOVERS - How do you know if your movers are capable of moving a piano? Read this companies home page. I chose to hire them because, even though my piano is small, it had to be carried up a few brick steps. I would definitely recommend this company.

DING LIFTERS - (Nothing to do with homes) This team performs magic on automobile dings and small dents. We have let them roll multiple dings out of car doors. When the car is returned, we can't even find the spot that once had a ding. They are worth contacting if you need this service.

FERGUSON'S - All of our plumbing fixtures and appliances were purchased through Ferguson's because they were the builder's source. Jennifer Arrasmith (plumbing, lighting) and Danielle Raper (appliances) were both incredible resources.

GREG BUDWINE - Even after commissioning Greg Budwine to do a custom compass rose on the ceiling in my husband's study, we did not realize what a treasure we had in our home. Although we loved his beautiful work, we simply had contacted Greg because of a recommendation we received. Once life settled down we came to realize the incredible artist he is. While he has an exceptional portfolio, he periodically does custom mural type pieces in homes.

LIGHTING GALLERY - A local, family owned lighting showroom on FM 1960 in Champions. There is a wide variety of price points and fixtures. The showroom is packed with wonderful options, and we found the perfect chandeliers here. Their customer service extends after the sale. Ann Morgan is amazingly talented and knowledgeable.

LIGHTING INC - We used The Woodlands area showroom on Ed English Dr. The entire staff is friendly, helpful, and hard working. You will be welcomed with a smile and greeting when entering the door. Like any lighting store, they can not carry every light that is available. Yet, their staff will help you find the perfect light with the myriad resources they have at their disposal. Their customer service is above the norm.  Daryl Austin was our salesperson, and we highly recommend him.

LuLu AND GiGi DESIGNS - I highly recommend Lindsey Abbott's work. Not only do they have wonderful furniture on their Facebook page that is for sale, they will consider custom pieces as well.
My grandbaby is sleeping in a beautiful Jenny Lynn crib that once held her dad and aunt. Lindsey updated it with a beautiful chalk paint and wax. She also turned my nursery chest of drawers into a piece of beauty.  I highly recommend Lindsey's work. Their specialty is "re-purposing and redesigning of old things; making them functional and beautiful again. Specializing in French design and shabby chic finishes." Give them a chance. I think you'll be pleased. She can be reached through her Facebook page and is great about responding.

R&D MARBLE (WILLIS, TX) - This company remodeled the master bathroom in our previous home, plus provided the beautiful Cambria Lincolnshire granite countertops in the kitchen and the beautiful stone vanities in all of the bathrooms. Their work is top quality and their prices are worth checking out. I have always been impressed with their customer service and will use them again without hesitation.

RED DOOR DECOR -  Shar de Marsais, designer, can help you choose furniture, fabric, tile, flooring, counter tops, or anything you need for your home. She can take the worry out of remodeling projects as well. Shar never gave up when we couldn't find a fabric we liked, and actually took time to search for "historically inspired" fabrics. Not only did she work tirelessly, but also helped us get our living room furniture and dining room chairs reupholstered. Ever resourceful, it was also Shar who taught us to number the dining room chairs and cushions before recovering the seat cushions. What a talent! Contact her through her Houzz page for more information

RENEWED SPIRIT HOME * - Small business owner, Stacey shares "The Lord's ways are certainly mysterious and in His perfect plan, He had me stumble upon this passion for transforming old, discarded or outdated furniture into beautiful, functional pieces." Check out her gallery of photos. Her work is incredibly beautiful. If you need a special piece, Stacey is probably  a great resource. (I have not purchased any products from this company, but am very impressed with the quality.)

STARFIELD DESIGNS - Marty Muckelroy has to be one of most talented and knowledgeable in his field. We first discovered his work at a Southern Living showcase home in Towne Lake. After meeting this talented man, we discovered his portfolio includes the Landry's Restaurant chain. If you've been to the Rainforest Cafes, then you have seen Marty's work. The twinkling fiber optic lights in the ceiling were all designed and installed by Marty. His mind can see things that mine can't even understand. We asked Starfield Designs to create a June sky for the ceiling in our theater room since it's our anniversary month. It's become one of the favorite things about our home.

TOTAL FLOORS - They do MORE than floors. But a name like Total Floors, Counter Tops, Showers, Ceilings, Walls, etc. must be too long to deal with. ;-)  This staff is amazing and will work hard to earn your business and loyalty. There are two showrooms; the one on the north side of town is open by appointment only. The options and resources are endless. Pat Mullin (owner) and Brad Jackson (a project manager) are both treasures of knowledge about their products and know how to "make it happen." You dream it, and chances are they can do it.

(Check back for additional recommendations.)
